RINA, a global company with 160 years of experience across multiple industries, is looking for an Asset Integrity Forensic Electrical Engineering Consultant to join the Materials, Technology and Innovation (MTI) business Unit.

What the role will involve
The successful candidate will be expected to run projects from the point of discussing requirements with potential clients, writing technical and commercial proposals, carrying out technical work and ultimately delivering reports to clients. As an experienced electrical engineer you will be comfortable explaining the benefits of RINA helping the client to solve their issues as well as being the prime engineer and project manager on the projects.

The role involves national and international travel to support MTI-UK’s customers’ needs and requirements.

Your key responsibilities as an Asset Integrity Forensic Electrical Consultant will include:

Individual Technical/Project Delivery:
  • Write technical and commercial proposals;
  • Write technical reports;
  • Manage portfolio of project portfolio to meet Performance, Cost and Time budgets.

BD and Marketing Activity:
  • Identify new clients;
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients;
  • Attend relevant technical conferences and networking events;
  • Write and oversee the production of technical papers;
  • Promote the service line offerings via suitable social media channels.

Business Unit HS&E activities:
  • Work safely in accordance with company QHSE policy and HSAW 1974;
  • Assist with the maintenance and procurement of lab equipment as required.

What we are looking for:

n electrical engineer who can apply their knowledge and experience to both office-based and site based projects with hands-on laboratory and site-based activities many of which will be the result of asset failure.

  • Bachelor’s degree qualified (minimum 2:1) or higher (MEng, MSc or PhD) in electrical engineering or forensic engineering or a related STEM subject);
  • Member or Fellow of appropriate chartered engineering organisation
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools and other relevant software applications;
  • Willingness to undergo UK security clearance if required
  • Full UK driving licence

  • In-depth knowledge of their relevant engineering discipline
  • An understanding of the application of forensic analytical techniques for electrical and power equipment.
  • Knowledge of HV systems, transformers, motors, generators, switchgear etc

  • Extensive experience in quality control/failure investigation in a high-tech manufacturing environment
  • Extensive experience in successfully managing and delivering relevant technical projects and programmes;
  • Experience in undertaking expert witness work would be advantageous.
  • Experience of a range of capabilities such as:
  • Electrical and mechanical induced switchgear failures (VCB, ACB and MCCB and oil filled)
  • Switch panels and switchboards
  • Contactors
  • Induction motors, synchronous generators and motors and variable speed drives
  • UPS systems – diesel rotary and static
  • Static transfer switches and converters
  • Industrial transformers and reactors
  • HV switches, CTs and VTs
  • Solar and wind generation systems
  • Protection failure

  • Demonstrable practical ability with a methodical and well organised hands-on approach;
  • A keen problem solver with an analytical mind which you use to promote innovative ideas and thinking;
  • Effective communication skills, strong listening skills with a flexible and positive approach to work;
  • Strong attention to detail and work with precision in practical, analytical and written work to ensure that all evidence within an investigation is correctly recorded and interpreted.
  • Exceptional report writing skills and high quality standards able to apply a logical and tailored approach to meet client needs;
  • Successful in establishing strong and effective working relationships with customers and colleagues.
