Job Description:

The intern will analyze complex social systems built from online networks, such as Twitter. More specifically, he/she will develop a platform for real time analysis of streaming data during exceptional events (e.g., Italian elections, terror attacks in Paris, etc). The platform will allow for the identification of automated agents (bots), the spreading of special content (negative/violent media, fake news, etc) and the analysis of human-bot interactions.

Internship goals:

Development of an analytical platform for computational social science of exceptional events. The intern will learn the basics of social network analysis and develop new skills for (big) data science.

Required knowledge and skills:

- Knowledge of programming language(s): R and/or python

- [Optional, but strong plus] Experience in working with third-party API

- [Optional] Basic knowledge of network analysis

- [Optional, but strong plus] Experience with interactive data visualization

Desired Degree: Preferential degree is Msc in Computer Science or related field. Exceptional candidates at Bsc level might be considered.

Internship info:

The internship is for 6 months, starting in Spring/Summer 2018 with some flexibility on the starting date.

The intern will work within the Complex Multilayer Networks (CoMuNe) Lab, at FBK-ICT.
