Job Description:

With a significant degree of self-responsibility, the successful candidate will:

  • Engineer cell lines and primary CNS cells for investigating cellular signaling and target pharmacology
  • Design, implement and analyse experiments to characterize the mode of action and kinetics of small molecules on receptors (GPCRs) and other targets
  • Plan and perform compound potency profiling experiments
  • Establish new technologies for the lab
  • Analyze data, write scientific reports about sets of experiments, identify next activities and communicate results to the line manager
  • Prepare and give presentations about their work to team, group, and project meetings as a basis for decisions and to foster discussion
  • Interact and coordinate with colleagues from other labs and departments in order to accomplish his/her tasks
  • Together with lab colleagues, maintain an efficient and safe work environment

Job Requirements:

Master’s or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology or related field with at least an additional 4 years of research experience, experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry an advantage (candidates with a PhD will not be considered).

A strong track record of experience in the following techniques:

  • Cell based assays using fluorescent and luminescent readouts
  • Transfection and transduction of cell lines and primary cells
  • Studying GPCRs, their signalling pathways and pharmacology, and analysing the data
  • Plasmid design, cloning, sequencing, use of standard molecular biology databases
  • Common molecular biology and protein methodologies: RNA preparation, qPCR, western blots, ELISA
  • Performing and analysing ligand-receptor interaction studies
  • Correct use of statistics for analyzing cell assay data
An advantage to have experience in some of the following techniques:
  • Primary neuron culture
  • Gene knock down/out technologies RNAi/CRISPR
  • Fluorescence microscopy
  • Image analysis
  • FACS

  • Highly self-motivated
  • Fast learner and flexible
  • Track record of good team behaviors and effective communication
  • Able to perform experiments in a precise and reliable manner
  • Well organized and able to handle several tasks in parallel
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Good command of written and spoken English, German in addition would be an advantage
