Job Description:

  • Develop, implement and execute target and disease-relevant assay systems required for the characterization small molecules on GPCRs and ion channels

  • Plan, perform and report compound profiling experiments with limited supervision

  • Establish phenotypic in vitro disease models using primary neurons and glial cell cultures

  • Analyze data, identify next activities and communicate results to the team

  • Together with lab colleagues, maintain an efficient and safe work environment

Job Requirements:

Master’s or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology or related field with at least an additional 4 years of research experience in neuroscience, experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry an advantage.

A strong track record of experience in the following:

  • Plate and cell-based assays using fluorescence and luminescence detection for functional GPCR profiling (FLIPR and/or FDSS)
  • Designing, conducting and analyzing ligand-target interaction studies
  • Studying GPCRs, their signalling pathways and pharmacology, and analysing the data
  • Fluorescence microscopy, high content imaging and analysis
  • CNS in vitro cultures ranging from dissection to measuring responses from cultured primary cells is a strong asset
  • Other relevant skills include molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (DNA/RNA manipulation, qPCR, plasmid and viral vector manipulation for gene delivery to recombinant and primary cells, Western blotting, ELISA)
  • Writing scientific reports and giving presentations of own work to research teams
An advantage to have experience in some of the following techniques:
  • ImageXpress, Opera or Incucyte experience an advantage

  • Functional profiling of ion channel modulating compounds.

  • An understanding of correct use of statistics for analyzing cell-based assay data

Personal Skills:
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Track record of demonstrating excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills

  • Able to work under time pressure and handle several tasks in parallel

  • Display excellent team behaviors and excellent communication skills

  • Strong written and verbal English skills are essential, German and French an advantage
