Scope of Work:

Gavron’s role is to review submarine concept designs to assess technical balance and safety. This requires the Gavron Team to develop a high level consideration of technical fitness for purpose, risk, systems and tools.
The role described in this PD addresses technical issues, some of which are at the “system level” within the overall scope of work.
The Applicant will be required to provide services to undertake structural design support services in the Gavron Team as a full time role. Reporting to the Naval Architect, the Submarine Structures Engineer will work for up to 21 months in the Gavron Team. The work will be in the following key areas and will be undertaken in parallel of the activities in Naval Architecture:
1. Pressure hull and major bulkhead design review;
2. External structures, including overhangs / fore & aft external constructions, and casing structure; and
3. Internal structuresm, with attention primarily to major modules.
Tasks to include;
1.     Advising on appropriateness of approach to structural design carried out to date, and on going structural design strategy:
         (i)  Based on referenced standards and experience, develop load cases and associated safety margins for key  external structural arrangements based on a proposed assessment methodology/tool; and
         (ii) Drawing from experience, identify areas of structural design risk and propose appropriate route to their    mitigation.
2.    Supporting review and development of approach for assessment of shock and whipping on structural design, and advise on preliminary assumptions / allowances to be made.
The applicant will not be undertaking design work, but will assist the Naval Architect by reviewing methodologies, tools and assumptions proposed for submarine design and, where appropriate, provide recommendations for assumptions and design methodologies.
The Submarine Structures Engineer:
a. Will be ideally predominantly based in the Far East;
b. Will be required to undertake international travel; and
c. May be required to undertake other duties identified and required by the Gavron Team (to be agreed).

Job Requirements:


The Services of the applicant are required for up to 21 months (circa 210 Business Days per year on average) over the period of mid-September 2017 through mid-June 2019.
Any earlier termination will be agreed and addressed via a staged process.


Ideally based permanently in the Far East.
Alternatively, monthly overseas trip to Client’s premises.

Background to Requirement:

a. The Client is going through a concept design phase for a new submarine design.
b. In order to more fully explore the various aspects of a technically balanced submarine concept designs in sufficient detail, the Client has required assistance from Gavron to provide Design Review expertise.
c. Gavron requires a Submarine Structures Engineer to form part of the design review team.
d. Fluent English

Skill Set & Level:

Skill set: Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
Skill level: Discipline Specialist or Pre-Eminent Consultant.
