Then Core-Asset Consulting’s Client, a leading financial institution is looking for a Solicitor / Legal Adviser from Financial Services to join their Edinburgh team on a permanent basis to provide legal and technical advice.

This varied role would ideally require a person with great knowledge of either pensions, ISA’s and protection products who has experience in the financial services sector.

Core responsibilities:

* Providing legal and technical advice in a risk aware, solution focused commercial way
* Identifying solutions and risk to business on the development and proposition projects required to support the launch of new pensions and insurance based personal investment, other investment including ISA and GIA, insurance products and services including protection products
* Assisting the team in ensuring that the company’s contractual documentation with customers is accurate and of an appropriate standard
* Providing detailed legal and technical advice and guidance on the resolution of complex and high value (monetary and reputational) disputes as far as they relate to pensions, ISAs and protection products and services
* Identifying the legal options available, the risks involved and provides direction or recommendations to the business or to the Dispute Resolution team of the Group Legal function
* Dealing with ad hoc complex legal and non-legal queries
* Supporting the activities of the Group Legal and Company Secretariat department by providing legal and technical advice, guidance and direction and/or recommendations to the business as required – this may involve assisting in matters out with the area of proposition and development
* Having significant contact with both external and internal point of the business such as clients, advisers, regulators and management

Core requirements:

* Qualified Solicitor or Advocate/Barrister – in one or both of Scotland and England
* Ideally good knowledge of pensions law and related legislation and technical requirements
* Good technical knowledge of post-A day pensions regime with reference to HMRC, DWP and Regulator guidelines and practice and to the different types of pension product that are generally available in the market
* Good knowledge of other areas of law that impact on the administration of the products that the Group sells in particular ISA’s and protection products
* General understanding of life and pensions industry in general and the Group in particular
* Experience within the Financial Services industry gained either in-house or in private practice


* A knowledge of Platforms and trust law as it relates to the Group’s business
* A knowledge of how investment funds work and previous experience of investment fund management agreements

* Able to carry out complex research and apply this to business specific requirements
* Ability to provide advice following analysis of complex situations, and after taking account of multiple sources of information
* Ability to plan and prioritise own work
* Ability to work autonomously and recognise when there is need for manager’s reference
* Ability to identify and work through issues and ideas and help or guide others in applying them to the business and to achieve the desired business result

* Ability to arrange for external legal advice to be provided where needed, and on an efficient and useful basis.
* Proven skills in making business decisions as well as legal decisions
* Ability to advise and relate to all levels of the business including the executive
