Job Description:

Room Leader

* Level 3 or equivalent
* Full time 42.5 hours per week
* £18,500 - £19,500 per annum
* Lovely friendly Nursery in Wallingford looking to recruit some new team members

Criteria:

* A warm and happy person with a friendly disposition
* To be confident to take on the role of the playful, enthusiastic adult
* To enjoy being involved in aiding children in their learning and development
* To have knowledge or be willing to learn about the characteristics of effective learning
* To have a passion for working for children
* We will require 2 good references (1 of which must be your last employer)
* To have previous experience and knowledge of caring for children aged 3 months to 5 years in a childcare setting
* We insist that all nursery staff hold/ attend a 12 hour paediatric first aid certificate; this will then be redone every 3 years

Responsibilities:

* To be a positive role model demonstrating good working practices
* Arrive ready to start work in room on time at starting time of agreed shift
* Keep room clean, tidy and well organised
* To liaise with other Room leaders to provide a smooth transition for children
* Ensure that all children are clean and safe and that all their needs are met
* Check outside play area for dangerous objects, before children go outside to play in nursery garden and follow the outside play procedure.
* Plan all outside activities and ensure that all children have relevant items of clothing etc. according to the weather i.e. sun hat and sun cream or wellies, hats and gloves
* Assist in duties that are essential to the running of the nursery i.e. making the children's tea, loading the dishwasher, helping with the nursery laundry
* Mentor the staff in your team and help them to learn new skills and link theory to practice
* Keep development records on all key children and work with parents to build up children's profiles.
* Meet the children’s personal care needs e.g. changing their nappy, assisting with toileting and hand washing and keeping themselves healthy
* Help and encourage children to learn using toys, equipment and natural resources provided by the nursery
* Be aware of all of the nursery's policies and procedures and ensure that they are implemented and followed by all staff
* Attend staff meetings which will be held outside of work hours once a month
* Maintain ratios within the room using ratio planning sheets and keeping in weekly contact with the Deputy/ Manager regarding updates for the coming weeks and months
* Work as part of a team and ensure that your team work effectively together
* Continue to implement free flow play
* Maintain good communication with all members of staff in the nursery
* Make professional relationships with all parents in the nursery especially with the children in your room and the parents of your key group.
* Create a rich learning environment within the room
* Use observations to connect and contribute to the weekly planner therefore capturing children's interests and expanding on them
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of the Revised EYFS framework 2012 and implement all aspects both in the planning and records of development for each child in your room
