Job Description:

We are currently looking for a designer for our client based near York.

The designers job purpose is to provide scheme design, drawing and support functions and to be responsible for small projects or sub-sections of larger projects, under instruction from the project engineer and lead draughtsperson.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

• To be responsible for the draughting effort of small projects, or sub-sections of larger projects.
• To instruct and train more subordinate draughting staff.
• Produce documentation and drawings to ISO 9001.
• To provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
• Offsite support for new build and existing products.
• Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
• Provide customer support.
• To work within the requirements of company procedures and national and international regulations.
• To work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
• Other activities as directed by the engineering manager.
• To provide detailed, accurate and clear drawings and other documentation in order to enable the manufacture of the company’s components.
• Knowledge of drawing systems.
• Tolerancing limits and fits.
• Drawing layout and symbols.
• Assembly methods.
• Manufacturing methods, including machining, forming, welding.
• Basic calculations for weight/displacement and other supporting needs.


• To provide scheme design and drawing on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.
• Ensure all designs are suitable for manufacture, assembly and maintenance.
• Prompt replies to production , logistical and technical support questions.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• HNC, ONC or latest equivalent Electrical/Hydraulic Systems/Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable design experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances).
• Tolerancing limits and fits.
• Drawing layout and symbols.
• Assembly methods.
• Manufacturing methods, including machining, forming, welding.
• Previous experience in a design environment.
• Design of ROV systems.
• Shop floor experience.
• Sound engineering knowledge.
• Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
• Good record keeping.
• Willingness to learn new engineering skills in a professional environment.
• Attentive to ISO 9001 QA systems.
• Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team, or on individual projects.
• Safety conscious, attentive to QHS&E policies and regulations.
• Software skills: Proficient in designing with AutoCad and Solid Works, Conversant with Microsoft Office Suite.

QHSE Competencies:

• Maintain behaviour in compliance with Forum HSE requirements.
• Maintain responsibility and accountability through personal commitment and behaviour.
• Report any unsafe or environmentally unsound acts and conditions to their immediate Supervisor such that remedial action can be taken to manage the risk.
