The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 21 mostly European countries. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials, surface science and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.

Within the Experiments Division, the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions group is now seeking to recruit a:

Software Engineer (m/f) for X-ray data analysis software
fixed-term contract of 12 months


Beamline ID27, as partner of a French grant (ANR Blanc MoFlex), is actively involved in the project "molecular fluids under extreme conditions" and is seeking to recruit a software engineer to work on data analysis software developments.
You will be in charge of the development of data analysis software in Python to treat X-ray data from liquids subjected to high pressures and temperatures; this involves implementing the necessary software chain to extract structures factors, pair correlation functions and densities from the raw X-ray data.
You should work in contact with several research facilities involved in this project (IMPMC, Paris and CEA, Bruyères-Le-Chatel). You will communicate with other facilities in English, so fluency in English is mandatory. Finally, you will have to provide reports and make presentations on a regular basis.

Job Requirements:


You should have a higher university degree (Master, MSc, DESS, Diplom, Diploma, Ingeniera Superior, Licenciatura, Laurea or equivalent) in Computing with a solid background in C++ and Python programming. A good background in general physics is desirable. Sufficient knowledge of technical English including writing of technical documentation is mandatory. You should be able to work autonomously and in a team.
