Inspire People have an opportunity for an experienced Linux Support Engineer to join a world leading and truly international scientific research organisation headquartered in Germany. 

A fantastic tax free monthly salary and additional benefits are offered, plus a relocation package.  Candidates must have the right to live and work in a European member state.   

A dedicated Linux Support Engineer for a team of circa 80 users and maintenance of a mainly Linux based software repository for electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, NMR and visualisation software including compilation and optimisation.  The Support Engineer will also participate in companywide infrastructure and networking projects / events.

Responsibilities of the Linux Support Engineer include: 
  • Develop and support the scientific environment 
  • Support the scientists to leverage the organisations high-performance computing power in computational workflows and scientific data analysis
  • Setting up customized solutions for data analysis and processing
  • Linux Server administration including system set-up, OS deployment and software maintenance
  • Support a network of about 100 Linux & Windows desktop and laptop workstations including OS and end user software deployment, network integration and troubleshooting of hardware/software issues


 

Job Requirements:

The successful Linux Support Engineer will have the following:
  • A degree in computer science or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years work experience supporting large heterogeneous IT infrastructures 
  • Technical expertise in managing desktop operating systems including a strong Linux background and some Windows
  • A solid background of current desktop and client application software packages and experience in automation of systems/software installations
  • Exposure to high-performance computing and different server technologies is required along with a broad overview of networking and related technologies would be greatly appreciated
  • Service-orientated attitude, a structured way of working and able to work to tight deadlines are key requirements 
  • Good English language skills.
This position is particularly suitable for candidates with previous experience in scientific computing and who want to work in a cutting edge research environment.

You can expect a competitive Net (basic) salary and an excellent social package.  The Net (basic) monthly salary for this vacancy ranges from EUR 3,300 – 4,000 depending on experience PLUS additional payments depending on your personal circumstances, you may be entitled to relocation benefits and MONTHLY allowances (e.g. family, dependants, childcare, education, expatriation installation).
