Job Description:

The European Vaccine Initiative (EVI) is a non-profit organization in the corporate form of an European Economic Interest Group (EEIG) based in Heidelberg, Germany. EVI is dedicated to accelerating the development of vaccines for diseases of poverty as well as emerging infectious diseases, including Covid-19.
EVI has an exciting career opportunity for a motivated individual who would like to join an enthusiastic organization that works with multiple partners across the world to develop new and affordable health solutions for all people.
We are looking to fill a new part time position (50%) as legal officer to add value to our activities and prepare the organisation for future growth. The successful candidate will ensure that EVI operates within the appropriate legal boundaries at all times, offer counsel on legal issues to facilitate business strategies development, ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management;
  • Legal review of the corporate structure and internal processes and support its optimization;
  • Oversee that EVI complies with contractual and other legal obligations towards its funders, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
  • Prepare draft agreements that minimise risks and maximise legal rights;
  • Prepare necessary legal documents for sponsoring and managing international clinical trials;
  • Lead negotiations with hospitals, investigators, pharmacies, laboratories, drug depots and other vendor agreements at a global level;
  • General legal support (intellectual property, publication and authorship rights, performance issues of clinical trial sites or suppliers, dispute settlement, legal aspects of creditor and debtor management etc.);
  • Legal support in creating and advancing opportunities to promote business development and income generation;
  • Review and maintain internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors;
  • Assure that EVI operates in compliance with current legislation related to HR and labour law;
  • Assure corporate data protection procedures are GDPR compliant;
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislative changes


 

Job Requirements:

Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Master‘s degree in law or similar qualification;
  • Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labour law, etc);
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of different cultures and background;
  • Ability to work independently and self-starter mentality and with great perseverance;
  • Experience with Swiss or German law, preferably both;
  • General confidence with technical aspects of digital communication.
 
Desired Competencies
  • Experience in general legal affairs for charities or non-profit organizations;
  • Experience of working with European Union grants, National research development grants and other international donor and private investment grants/agreements.
  • Experience with legal aspects of clinical trials and medicinal product development;

Salary Benefits:

Conditions of Appointment
Contract period will start as soon as possible upon mutual agreement. A probation period of six months will apply;
The position is initially part time (50%)
The contract period will initially be limited to one year with possible extension;
EVI operates a flexible working arrangement;
Placement will be decided at the time of hiring – a flexible arrangement between home-office work and work in the EVI office is to be expected.
