Job Description:

Summary:  The Automation Engineer is accountable to ensure reliable and smooth operation of all automation systems and associated infrastructure required to operate a 24x7 commercial manufacturing facility. The Automation Engineer must work independently, with limited supervision or direction. The Automation Engineer will work with IT and internal customers from Industrial Operations to determine objectives and priority of assignments. Support and projects routinely require independent decision making and use of judgment, as well as prioritization of work accordingly to align with annual objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the design, configuration, qualification, administration and maintenance of the sites automation systems.
  • Own the Change Management Process and perform assessments of Site Change Controls for these processes. 
  • Directly support operations with troubleshooting and issue resolution with respect to automation systems and applications,
  • Configure and maintain Virtual Machine servers and thin clients.
  • Own and Perform technical and validation tasks on distributed Automation systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing systems, and infrastructure and lead the development and integration of new technologies and existing projects.
  • Participate and act as automation expert (SME) in cross functional teams in support of large capital projects.
  • Investigation of manufacturing deviations and anomalies related to automation and software and manage projects related to corrective action or equipment performance improvement.
  • Program PLC and HMI applications for automated process equipment, capable of troubleshooting and demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and controls.

Job Requirements:

Education and Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree Engineering, Computer Science or related technological field.
  • 5 years’ direct experience programming, designing and maintaining industrial control systems (design/build/programming of PLC and data acquisition systems) in a pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or similar industry.   
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (i.e. FDA / cGMP).
  • Experience implementing or supporting the operation of Proficy Data Historian.
  • Experience with Rockwell system is a plus.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Qualifications:
