Job Description:

Supervises and applies procedures for the operation of Wireline equipment / tools / techniques in order to ensure quality and cost effective service is provided to each customer.  The individual will continue to receive training to extend their knowledge of services related to formation evaluation, production logging, perforating services, conveyance, imaging, and explosive and radioactive handling / safety procedures. Also, this position will entail training Field Engineers and Junior Field Engineers in operating various types Wireline equipment in their field of expertise. As a General Field Engineer you would be expected to focus on further career progression aiming towards supervisory/management status.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and preparing for well site operations.
  • To load out Wireline Services equipment to customer locations.
  • Assume the lead role in field operations ensuring safety and service quality throughout.
  • Act as a mentor to the more junior members of the team
  • Lead interface with the customer representative and on board crew
  • Ensure all equipment is back loaded from location as required
  • Perform maintenance on operational and auxiliary equipment when required.
  • Promote the use of the TOPS reporting system.
  • Comply with Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with company representative on location in a positive manner that portrays Weatherford in the right way.
  • Focus on customer service, pride, professionalism and getting the job done right first time.
  • Exposure to explosives, high pressure well bore environments and ionizing radiation.
  • Any other delegated responsibilities as instructed by Line Management within the timeframe specified in a safe and efficient manner to meet business requirements, provided the instruction is reasonable and you are capable and deemed competent to fulfil these.

  • International travel may be required at times throughout your field career.Working conditions will be both onshore and offshore based


  • Electronic, Electrical, Petroleum, Mechanical background
  • Enginerering or related degree with no experience required or equivalent oil/field engineering experience
  • Trained in radiation, pressure control and explosives
  • Experience/Competence


  • Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior experience in Open/Cased hole logging in a Field Engineer capacity
  • Computer literate in all aspects of Microsoft Office Applications


  • Previous Wireline field experience within Weatherford
  • Progress shown within the Weatherford Competency System



  • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude
  • Principles of open/cased hole logging
  • Principles of electricity
  • Understanding of fundametal physics


  • Good electronic, electrical and mechanical background
  • Petroleum enginering

  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Perform operations/services as required under instruction from lead engineer
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be safety conscious as each assignment will involve the implementation of health, safety ad environmental procedure
  • Must be willing to spend extended periods of time at any field location
  • Honest, hard working and able to learn
