Job Description:

Our client is the UK's leading family-owned supplier of waste management, environmental and recycling solutions, across London and the south of England.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient management and development of a Total Waste Management (TWM) Contract, including the management of waste porters across three hospital sites and nine community sites. Although they will be based in Harrow, the role will require travel across all of these sites.

Key responsibilities of the Waste Manager:

  • Implementing the contract, aligning service provision and procedures across all sites and manage contract within financial budget
  • Manage performance of contract to customer specifications, KPIs & SLAs
  • Manage the site-based Waste Porters, across three acute hospital sites, on a day-to-day basis, ensuring tasks are competed as per customer specification/KPIs
  • Regular 1-2-1 meetings with Waste Porters ensuring that they have a full understanding of the relevant contract KPIs and the necessary tools, skills and attitude to be effective
  • Attend regular contract review meetings with the customer, ensuring action points are completed within agreed timescales post-meeting
  • To work with the Trust and on-site FM teams to agree on recycling and sustainability targets, and implement plans for these targets to be achieved
  • Pro-actively work with their Clinical Waste team to ensure the customer is demonstrating Best Practice at all times when disposing of clinical waste/s.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Depot Operations Managers to discuss service levels and opportunities for efficiencies and service expansion
  • Carry out regular reviews of contract in terms of price, type of service, best value and profitability and seek to add value to contract by means of continuous improvement
  • Keep customer updated on new technology, innovations and waste legislation
  • Ensure correct management information (MI) is supplied to the customer in a timely manner
  • Organise and carry out on-site training, presentations, waste awareness seminars and facility tours/audits to develop the customer’s (staff) knowledge of Grundon services and to promote efficient waste segregation
  • Ensure the provision of timely and accurate reports as requested by the Head of Contract Management or Commercial Manager


What they’re looking for

  • At least two years’ experience as a Contractor Waste Manager, with clinical waste experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience of managing a team of operational employees
  • The ability to problem solve
  • Confidence in using Microsoft office and databases
  • Knowledge of the waste industry and/or NHS experience an advantage
  • Full UK driving licence


Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo security checks in order to obtain entry onto sites.

Hours of work: 7.30 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
